The US constitution provides qualifications that should be met by persons intending to vie for the presidency and the vice presidency. One fascinating thing about the qualifications is that anyone, who has been a US citizen for a minimum of 14 years and is above 35 years of age, is qualified to vie for the presidency. This provision gives legal immigrants a chance to exercise their constitution rights, and everyone can agree that this provision enabled the current US president to be an eligible presidential candidate among other attributes. The issue of the vice president having similar qualifications to those of the president is truly okay. This is because the vice president takes over incase the president is kicked out of office for reasons provided in the constitution. Therefore, government operations continue as usual (John et al 2-56). On the other hand, sitting presidents have the power to appoint a vice president in case the current vice president is out office. The process is carried out in a democratic way since the appointed vice president goes through a vetting process by the Senate. The move to seek the Senate opinion is a sign of limited presidential powers in the nomination of vice presidents. The US constitution allows incumbents to hold power for two terms. In any democratic State, such provisions give more citizens a chance to lead government than when an incumbent remains in office until his death (John et al 2-56). People may argue that a sitting president may detach from State affairs in the last term of presidency.
